CCI appeals to all imams to dedicate their Khutbas on Dec 02 to 2 Major issues
Respected Imams, scholars and khatibs, As-Salamu alaikum,
This coming Friday, Dec 02, happens to be a day for 2 major issues: 1. The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, 2 December, recalls the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (resolution 317(IV) of 2 December 1949).
Slavery is not the natural state of a human being and Islam, through its laws of expiation and principles of dignity and freedom, managed to abolish it gradually. IMAM (International Muslim Abolitionist Movement) has officially joined the “Not For Sale Campaign” and is appealing to all the mosques to dedicate a Freedom Salat on Dec 02 and to pray for all the victims of modern slavery. For more information about IMAM, please visit: http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/action/faith/muslim/ In Arabic: http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/IMAM.pdf And for information about Not-For-Sale Campaign: http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/
2. The International Day for Disabled Persons. The day aims to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. We were asked for a few years now to dedicate that Friday for the disabled. Please visit CAMD site for more details: http://www.camd.ca/
So we will have to somehow hit 2 birds with one stone as the 2 issues are related to all kinds of disability (Legal, physical, mental…etc.,) Please confirm that your masjid will address the above issues so I can let the organizers of your support.
Jazakumu Allahu khayran! Imam Dr. Hamid Slimi
