Toronto – The Canadian Council of Imams strongly condemns the heinous attacks on The Waterloo Masjid last week . The Muslim Community of Waterloo has always been supportive of religious tolerance and dialogue and is very well-known for its commitment to good social and educational contributions.
"The amount of damage and numbers of graffiti on the walls of the masjid reveal a serious problem of ignorance, hate and bigotry that should be addressed immediately." Dr. Hamid Slimi, the Chairman of the Council, stated in a public lecture yesterday. He added, " Such acts will only bring the community and neighbors together and will only make Muslims more committed to their mission of peace and justice among the citizens of Canada."
The Council appeals to the local and federal governments to take these incidents seriously and ensure that such acts are continuously and immediately deterred and that the consequences of such crimes are very costly.
