ABOUT THE COUNCIL
The Canadian Council of Imams (CCI), established in 1990, is a unified platform for Imams and Muslim leaders across Canada. It has become a trusted resource for Muslim communities, government bodies, and media, addressing key issues such as Islamophobia and the challenges facing Muslim minorities.
CCI fosters unity among Imams through regular meetings, seminars, and conferences, and serves as a liaison with government to promote understanding and cooperation. While neutral in politics, CCI advocates for compassion, nonviolence, and ethical principles that enrich communities and society at large.

Message to Imams
As Canada’s Muslim population continues to grow, so do the challenges we face in areas such as education, healthcare, and law enforcement. While upholding democratic values, we remain committed to combating discrimination, violence, and other harmful behaviors. To foster harmony within Canadian society, we must define our identity, build trust, and respect the laws of the land.
Imams, as scholars of Islamic law, play a vital role in guiding the Muslim community on religious matters. Recognizing this responsibility, the Canadian Council of Imams was established to provide leadership on key issues, including marriage, divorce, discrimination, and religious freedom. The Council serves as a trusted resource, offering guidance to both the Muslim community and government institutions.
Given the significance of this work, it is essential for every Muslim community to encourage their Imam to join the Council. Active participation strengthens our collective voice and ensures we can effectively address the evolving needs of our community. Through regional councils, gatherings and networking, we strive to unite Imams across Canada, fostering collaboration and the exchange of knowledge for the benefit of all.
